A confession. I’ve been playing video games for a long time. Since the early 90’s. I have had a long and fruitful relationship with gaming and actually wish I had began writing, blogging and forming friendships in the gaming community earlier because I have enjoyed it immensely.
However, the downside to opening up about my gaming exploits is the occasional confessions of not playing a couple of classics that have been celebrated not only for years but for decades.
One of those games I have never played (but literally have had without a case since the early 2000’s) is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. A game you pretty much cannot go without seeing mentioned in pretty much every single, “Greatest Games of all time lists”.
So.. I decided to bust it out. Blow off the cobwebs and go beat the fuck out of Dracula.
But it didn’t work that way. No… not at all.
If you underestimate this game as a simple 2-D scroller this game will punish you. It’s dense, complicated, difficult and addicting.

In a time wheee it seems most indie developers are turning back the clock and pumping out beautiful and well written 2-D games, SotN couldn’t have aged better. The soundtrack is immaculate. The gameplay easy to pick up but deep enough to keep you engaged. I’m a grinder by nature from Final Fantasy but I have found it almost as rewarding SotN.

With a story that is deep and full of plot twists and crazy ass bosses this game is well worth looking into if you have missed it. I know it’s cult like status has inflated the prices on the hard copy these days but it’s been released on the Xbox 360, ps4, psp and android. And – there’s always emulators. It is absolutely worth the ass kicking it will give you.

Sounds like a pretty interesting game!
Yeah if you’re into mental pain and anguish. 😅😂😂
I had this bundled with Rondo of Blood in the Dracula X Chronicles for PSP . Sadly I lost the game but I do need to download the rom for it since my psp is hacked.
Ooof this bad boy on the PSP? Pain-on-the-go. 😂
This game has really awoken the masochist in me 😂 😅
I loved the music 💕 And there was some grest levels . I’ll be honest though I never finished it , so I should definitely download a rom for it once I finish a few of my other games .
OMG that soundtrack 😍 😍 so killer. I do recommend suffering with me for awhile once you’re finally done playing Genshin. 😂
It’s one of the most iconic game soundtracks.
At the moment Genshin is definitely taking my time along with Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance . I’ve been trying to beat all the Kingdom Hearts Games in order . Almost up to KH3 , but still have one more game to go , oh and a mini game , plus cinematic .
Omg I tried that last year and I got stuck on chain of memories. I HATE the card system 😂
I didn’t mind it too much , Chain of Memories may have been one of my favorites in the series . I liked Birth By Sleep’s system and story too .
I don’t know why but I struggled with it mightily. I did like the story line a lot. I just wasn’t smart enough to build a good deck of cards for bosses 😂
It does get easier , like when you play in the second half , it definitely took me less time . But yeah the some of the bosses were insane. The ice character in particular was pretty tough for me .
Man, I’ve tried getting into this game, and I just haven’t been able to get past the first part with Alucard. But it looks really cool, and I’ve watched speedruns of it. 🙂
It’s painful. 😂
