As strong of a debut album, Outlandos d’Armour was The Police’s sophomore effort was light years ahead in both maturity and songwriting prowess.
Before the mounting pressures that would later lead to a massive in-band power struggle, fist fights and a studio knife stand-off The Police were firing on all cylinders and working and writing together well.
English teacher turned songwriter, Sting, dynamic drum dynamo, Stewart Copeland and underrated and overlooked guitarist, Andy Summers would earn their first Grammy award with their second effort and rocket to commercial and critical acclaim.
The title, Regatta De Blanc roughly translates to “White Reggae” and while the title is a bit misleading if not cool sounding, the band certainly does experiment more during instrumentals with more worldly time signatures, grooves and sounds.
Overall an album that plays like a greatest hits, it’s a landmark achievement for the group and arguably their greatest product.

I’m a huge Sting fan. I have all of his records and I liked his work with the Police too. Have you ever read his autobiography, Broken Music? It’s beautiful. He’s such an intelligent persona and fantastic writer. The only other autobiography I have read which I enjoyed almost as much was Porcelain by Moby.
I love Sting too! I spent my whole youth listening to his songs. I’ve improved my English thanks to him. He’s very intelligent and sensitive. I’ve never read his autobiography. Thank you for the recommendation. I love Moby too! But I’ve never read his autobiography neither.
Yes both highly recommended! Sting’s memoir covers his childhood up until the success of the Police and he has said he has plans to release another one. Moby actually just has released a second memoir as his first ends with him releasing his, “Play” album and finally finding success but it is very dark and honest. Being a musician it’s very relatable at times. It’s funny you mention Sting improving helping improve your English because he was an English teacher 😂
He also does a song in French off of his Mercury Falling album titled, La Belle de San Regrets. Its a fantastic track off a great album. ☺️
