Records You Should Listen to Before You Perish Vol 12

They’re sitting up in the board room
And you sit like a fly on the wall
You can hear the man in the suit say
We don’t have time to stall

We got deadlines to meet
Oh, we got deadlines to meet

‘Cause time equals money and money’s alright
So I’ll be working past nine
And those fucking Europeans who vacation from September
They ain’t in their right mind

We got deadlines to meet
Oh, we got deadlines to meet

Named after a street nearby where they lived and rehearsed, The Arkells were formed in Hamilton, Ontario. All five original band members attended McMaster University where lead singer, Max Kerman met guitarist Mike DeAngelis and bonded over their love for similar musical artists.

Signing with Independent label, Dine Alone Records, the Arkells debut album, Jackson Square was an overnight success rocketing up the independent charts leading to a CASBY (short for Canadian Artist Selected By You) Award from Toronto’s rock station 102.1 The Edge in October 2009 and a Juno award in April 2010 for New Group of the Year.

The album itself, named after a local shopping center, plays more like a greatest hits record than a debut album. A total Indie masterpiece. Kerman’s tongue-in-cheek socially charged lyrics perfectly set the tone for a disenchanted work force. The Arkells are at their strongest when existing in-between posh snob and stoned minimum wage worker and this album finds that line quickly and never lets up.

I am currently about twelve hours into my projected 80-100 hours of Final Fantasy X. Still enjoying a little bit of a break from bad games, trying to post all of the time and social media. So gaming posts will be back eventually. Once I beat FFX for the 400th time.
